The only permanent, reliable way to identify a lost pet.
Collars, ID tags, and leashes ensure your pets are always in their homes where they are loved and cared for and prevent them from getting lost. Missing pets is very common and can happen anytime; however, physical restraints or IDs aren’t always the most effective. This is why we recommend microchips, a permanent form of ID for pets, to help reunite them with their family should they ever get lost.
Microchips are very effective and can last for a lifetime when accurately implanted. When a lost pet is retrieved and brought to a shelter or clinic, they are always checked for a microchip. The microchip can be detected using a special reader to generate the ID number. The staff can contact the manufacturer with the ID number to get the pet owner’s contact information.
The process is relatively painless for your pet. It’s similar to drawing blood. A special needle is used to insert the chip at the back of the neck. At most, your pet will feel a pinch.
Your pet can be microchipped as early as 6 to 8-weeks-old. Even if your pet is older than 7-years-old, they can get a microchip. Please call us at 519-389-2020 to discuss microchipping your pet.
